Hack ‘n Jill, a Retrospective on Effective Teams

This weekend I participated in Hack 'n Jill, a hackathon in New York City with a slight twist - 50 Girls, 50 Guys, 8 Hours. This particular hackathon was unlike some of the others I've participated in, not only because of the gender balance. I have worked on teams with an even male/female ratio before. The main factor for me was the lack of time. Traditional hackathons typically give you 24 hours at a minimum, so my immediate assumption was logical: 1/3 the time = 1/3 the project. This was not the case.

For years I've been sticking my head outside of the driver's window on various cars that I drive, hoping to reach for a glimpse of the fuel tank door. However, when doing so this past weekend, a friend of mine said to me "Why don't you just look at your fuel symbol?"....
